On the first day of school...

I conducted a survey in my classes, asking students which teacher they had last year. I knew that one student was new to the school, and I said, "And where did you come from?" (fully knowing that I ought to say "And from where did you come?" but unwilling to say it because the sophomores will panic if I say it that way).

The boy replied, "My mother."

I thought he was being a smart aleck and I said, "Well. Good. That makes sense. But where did you last attend school?"

He looked at me like I was a moron and said, "Um, I was home schooled."

Oh. I am so jaded.
