Day 10: The Little Prince

Maybe Baby,
One of my favorite books is a children’s book, so you and I will get along just fine. It’s called The Little Prince, and it is full of gentle and lovely wisdom. Here are a few snippets, just for you.

“All grown-ups were once children... but only few of them remember it.”

“Well, I must endure the presence of a few caterpillars if I wish to become acquainted with the butterflies.”

“A rock pile ceases to be a rock pile the moment a single man contemplates it, bearing within him the image of a cathedral.”

I will read this book to you even before you are old enough to understand the beauty.

Day 9: Grandma's house

Maybe Baby,

Family is very important to us. I hope you can understand that friends are great but family is forever. I have always loved family reunions, because I get different points of view when I am able to hear firsthand from family members that have traveled and been seasoned with different cultures and ways of living. My parents were raised nearby to their grandparents and relatives and I want the same for you. I have always been an hour or a state away from grandparents, and that's too far.

Krystle & I love having family close and have chosen to live within walking or biking distance to each grandma's house. So you can have your cheerleaders close at hand. For cookies & milk, or a never-get-old hug.

Families are forever and that includes grandma....and grandpa! :-)

Day 8: If you are a BOY

Maybe Baby,
I had a dream several months ago that you were a little boy. Every time I thought about babies up until that dream, you were always a girl in my mind. And then, whoosh. A dream about a little boy. It made me panic, because I have more sisters than brothers, so I feel more prepared for a girl. But it's okay. I thought of it a little bit and I realize that a boy is awesome. You see, your dad is a wonderful man. His great father taught him how to be a great father. He can teach you how to be the same, which is pretty awesome. I think I had the dream just to get comfortable with the idea that a boy or a girl would both be fine. But if you are, I’m glad you are a boy.

Day 7: If you are a GIRL

Maybe Baby,
You know that I have four sisters. Three of them are older than me and one is my baby sister. Girls are funny. Sometimes we cry for no reason, and sometimes we yell for no reason, but always we are worth all the effort. Your dad and I will do the best we can to raise you to be happy and smart and kind. Those things matter most. I will teach you to look in a mirror and see beauty that I know is there. I will teach you what a special child of God you are--a special daughter of a loving father in heaven. And we will shop together, even when you are tiny. I will teach you to cook just like my mom taught me. I will need both Grandmas to teach you to sew because I have never been patient enough to learn. Moms and daughters have a special bond. If you are a girl, you will have two mommies (your birth mother and me) and you will know how much you are loved.

Day 6: Daddy

Maybe Baby, your dad is the most amazing man. He has incredible parents who raised him right and taught him to be a man of God. He’s got beautiful red hair and a beard that is sometimes out of control, but we won’t hold that against him. He will drop everything just to help someone out. He laughs with his whole face and smiles with his eyes. We are lucky he’s ours.

Day 5: Treats

Maybe Baby, you might have my sweet tooth. Just want to throw that out there.
You might have your dad’s idea of treats: applesauce and Jell-o. No joke.
Maybe you will like salty things, and I will have to stock the pantry with pretzels and popcorn instead. I’m willing to do that.
